Gum disease and fibromyalgia

It's been almost a month since I posted about my dental work affecting my fibromyalgia, for the good.
That is to say, no fibro flare-ups after having three teeth pulled.

Well, here I am nearly a month later, and I still have not had a fibro flare-up.

I have had one headache bad enough to require taking some headache meds.

I have had minor lower back pain, but it did not require any meds or anything.  Just a few yoga stretches and it seemed ok.

Other than that, no chronic widespread pain.  Could it be that pulling those three teeth "cured" my fibromyalgia?  Well, I asked my dentists, and here's what they said.

"I think you cured my fibromyalgia." I told the main dentist.  She said, "Really?" and then the periodontist came into the room and grunted a "uh-huh."  I looked at him and said, "What do you mean, uh-huh?  You sound like you are not surprised.  Do you think my teeth were causing my fibromyalgia!?"  He replied, "It's possible."

So, wow.  Now, I'm not telling you to go out and get your teeth pulled, but I wonder if we are on to something.

The permanent dental bridge has not been put in yet.  I'm on my second temp bridge, and this week I will be getting the third temp bridge.  The "scissors" at the back are not as bad this time, and I've been able to eat, but it's still a chore, and not much fun.

The permanent bridge will be at least another month, if not longer.  So, stay tuned for updates.

Thanks for reading!!

UPDATE:  Maybe I spoke too soon?  Today, I am totally wiped out, exhausted; and my right shoulder is killing me.  But it's not a body-wide flare-up of pain, just the shoulder.  Who knows?

    1. Thank you! I went to four dentists over a several-year span before I found the one who is doing the work. They all gave the same treatment plan, so I knew I wasn't getting the run-around. I have severe bone loss from the periodontal disease, and so I can't have implants (no bone to attach it to). Therefore, I'm having a bridge, and have to have several surgeries before the perm bridge goes in. Also, these are my front, top teeth. Eating with a temp bridge is unsatisfying. I've lost about 10 pounds. Sigh. Thanks for reading/listening!

  2. I am so glad I stumbled on this post! My teeth/gums have been on fire, severe tooth pain in random teeth and tastebuds that feel burnt. I am going to see my dentist tomorrow. I have always wondered if I don't have some sort of underlying oral infection that could be causing or aggravating my fibro.

  3. I wouldn't be surprised if there is some connection for a lot of us. Good luck, let me know how it goes.
